A former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dimeji Bankole yesterday boasted that his political party, Action Democratic Party (ADP) will overrun the All Progressives Congress (APC) and others to emerge victorious in the Ogun state governorship election holding next year.
Bankole, who spoke in Abeokuta, the state capital shortly after he was unveiled as the governorship candidate for Ogun ADP, expressed the confidence that the work already done by his party within the past two years will work for its electoral success next year.
With particular reference to the internal crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, the former Speaker emphasised that he would neither in any capacity, waste or toy with the governorship ticket given to him by ADP.
“I promise that I will not, in any capacity, play with the ticket that you have given me. I believe I can speak on behalf of all other candidates that come February and March 2019, we will deliver.
“I am speaking with all confidence with the work that you have done in the last two years, and still doing, most of it covertly.
“We are in for a shot at the seat in this state. We are dependent on God and the work that we have done and still doing especially at grassroots level.
Stressing that ADP is well structured in the state to displace the incumbent out of power, Bankole however, expressed gratitude to the leadership of the party for deeming it fit to field him for the position.
“I am exceedingly happy to be nominated as our party’s gubernatorial candidate. I am grateful to this massive structure you have built in the last six years, especially in the last two years.
“I assure you that the economic complexities of the Ogun State is not difficult and the motor of our party ‘Mass Employment’ is something that we will follow.”
Speaking earlier, ADP state chairman, Chief Wale Egunleti said settling for the governorship candidate of the party as well as other contestants for the various elective positions had been torturous.
He said the party unanimously picked the former Speaker based on competence and track records when he held sway as the fourth citizen of the country.
ADP chairman described Bankole as very young, intelligent, competent and vast with experience saying that Ogun state needed calibre of highly resourceful and dynamic like him to return the state to path of economic prosperity and growth.
“We were told repeatedly that competence, not sectionalism, is the most important quality of all and in answering the call of our people, members of the party unanimously elected Rt. Hon. Dimeji Bankole, a tested and trusted leader whose competence and readiness for the task of effectively governing Ogun State cannot be questioned”.
