The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has won all the twenty three chairmanship positions in the just concluded Local Government Council Elections in Rivers State, Daily Post reports.
This is according to results announced Sunday night by Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, retired Justice Chukwunenye Uriri.
Justice Uriri noted that the exercise was free and fair, adding that there was no report of violence in any Local government during the election.
He said logistics was effectively managed with materials delivered to the over four hundred polling units in the state almost seamlessly.
The retired Judge while congratulating winners of the election, announced that Certificate of Return would be issued in due course.
In the meantime, the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers has picked holes in the election, describing it as a sham.
The APC’s reaction comes as the party announced its boycott of the election over a pending matter in Court.
State Chairman of the party, Ojukaye Flag Amachree in a statement said the low turn out of electorates during the council election indicated that the people of the State were not interested in the process.
Flag Amachree stated that, “Rivers people have rejected the People Democratic Party in the state and what transpired in the election has vindicated the APC that our people are tired of Wike.”
