Pensioners yesterday shut-down banking activities at First Bank, Coomassie House in Abuja over poor welfare package and remuneration.
The pensioners, who came out in their numbers, to drive home their demands, seek the urgent intervention of the First Bank management and alleged that their salaries was below 10, 000 monthly while some receive as low as N5, 000 monthly.
The protesters, who chanted songs of displeasure, blocked the gate of the bank and told our reporter that they were subjected to live life under poor conditions.
Some of the placards wielding by the pensioners reads: ‘’Our welfare must be paramount; enough is enough; enough of the continuous silence; this impunity is too much; we worked for First Bank in our youthful days, we demand to be treated as humans.
‘’By 2004/2015 our pension fund stood at over 200 billion naira, managing directors in First Bank should explain what happened to the funds.’’
Speaking on behalf of the pensioners,  the spokesman, National Union of Pensioners (NUP), Comrade Bunmi Ogunkolade, called on First Bank to pay the entitlements of their pensioners and obey the Court judgment because they challenged them in court.
Ogunkolade said priority is not given to the plight of the old and weak pensioners; their welfare is not countenanced.
