The Conference of Patriotic Nigerians, a coalition of true democrats, will tomorrow hold a solidarity walk in support of the Buhari/Osinbajo led government at the Unity Fountain, Abuja.
According to the coalition, the solidarity walk became necessary following the recent and unfortunate political happenings in Nigeria bordering on the news peddled about the medical vacation of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Secretary General of the group, Ambassador I. A. Waiya, in a statement made available to Journalists Sunday yesterday, noted that calls by some mischievous groups seeking for President Buhari’s resignation prompted the solidarity walk billed for Monday.
“It (calls for president’s resignation) is an act which is maliciously and mischievously being promoted by some unpatriotic and unguided people who do not even appreciate the collective responsibility of preserving the integrity of the Nigerian state as a project and are sadly patronized by the Nigerian media”, he said.
The statement further noted: “It is therefore against this backdrop that a good number of progressive and development organizations across the thirty six states of the federation have resolved to, through a collective engagement of all other genuine political activists, true democrats and concerned Nigerians, organize a solidarity walk in Abuja.
“The exercise is to serve as mark of appreciation for the significant and unimaginable positive impacts the Buhari-led government has made, and to dissociate the right thinking and true Nigerians from unfounded and unjustified agitations for the unconditional and quick return of the President Muhammadu Buhari from his legitimate medical vacation in London.
“The event is expected to be attended by over one hundred thousand Nigerians from across the states of the federation and Abuja.
“The crowd is also expected to stage a walk from the Unity Fountain to the Presidential Villa for the presentation of a position paper on behalf of the participating organizations to the Acting President, His Excellency, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo.
“It is time to put a stop to the unhealthy politicking in our country and to prove to the world that, the time is ripe for the good Nigerians to determine the political definition and direction of this country, not the miscreants and cheap political merchants.”
