The royal rumble in the Sultanate involving the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III and Magajin Garin Sokoto, Hassan Danbaba, was yesterday  resolved in the seat of the Caliphate.
This followed a truce meeting mediated by the Emirs of Kano, Gwandu and Kontagora at the Sultan’s palace.
The disagreement between the Sultan and Danbaba who is a grandson of the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, became conspicuous last week when the Magajin Garin Sokoto abdicated his position as kingmaker.
LEADERSHIP Sunday gathered that after the peace parley, which ended at about 5:30pm yesterday, the Magajin Garin Sokoto who entered the Sultan’s palace with only a cap emerged with a turban, indicating that reconciliation had taken place.
Palace sources said the mediators asked Danbaba to apologise to the Sultan, drawing his attention to the fact that as Sultan, Alhaji Saad Abubakar is a father figure to him.
“The mediators took their time to get the Magajin Garin Sokoto see reason why he should be the one to apologise to His Eminence, the Sultan. He eventually apologized and his apology was accepted by the religious leader”, one of the sources told our correspondent.
Northern royal fathers were said to be disturbed by the lingering rift between the two important figures in the seat of the Caliphate.
Danbaba was reported to have previously walked out on the Sultan and rejected his title after effort to resolve the rivalry between him and the zonal vice chairman the of All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir met brick wall.
It was learnt that trouble started when the grandson of the late Sir Ahmadu Bello cautioned the governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Tambuwal, against the appointment of Abdulkadir as Marafan Sokoto.
The Magajin Garin Sokoto had informed our sister publication, LEADERSHIP Friday, that what resulted in the skirmish was just the usual misgivings between family members that should not have been made public.
“Whatever happened is in the past and will not happen again. I hasten to tell you that whatever you may have heard or read about the Sultan and myself is no longer in the domain of a conflict that all of us should fret about”, he stated.
